Position Purpose
At Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Health Informatics Nurse – Surgical Specialty ensures accurate and timely clinical data integrity for surgical services. This role supports quality improvement and patient safety by managing data abstraction and registry reporting for surgical procedures and quality outcomes.

Description
Position Purpose
At Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Health Informatics Nurse – Surgical Specialty ensures accurate and timely clinical data integrity for surgical services. This role supports quality improvement and patient safety by managing data abstraction and registry reporting for surgical procedures and quality outcomes.
What You Will Do
- Understand appropriate clinical documentation to ensure the severity of illness, risk of mortality, and level of services are accurately reflected in the health record.
- Conduct concurrent and retrospective reviews of patient health records to ensure accurate, complete, and timely data entry into designated registries.
- Prepare presentations and review data at regularly scheduled and ad hoc meetings.
- Participate in quality improvement, research, and accreditation projects and support those projects with data reviews and reports.
- Ensure documentation of discharge diagnoses and co-morbidities fully reflects patient's status and care
- Ensure compliance with reporting standards and timelines.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to improve documentation and workflows.
- Provide insights for quality initiatives and patient safety.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduated from an accredited nursing school. A bachelor’s in Nursing is strongly preferred and encouraged.
- Valid and current Connecticut RN license
- The ideal candidate will have 3or more years of surgical nursing experience (e.g., perioperative, OR, or PACU).
- Strong knowledge of clinical documentation and data abstraction.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, basic statistical analysis
- Experience with registry reporting (e.g., NSQIP).
- Familiarity with Epic or similar EMR systems.
- Current BLS/CPR (certification support offered post-hire)
- Full-Time – 40 hours/week – Day Shift
- Salaried position
- Compensation Range: $75,712 – $121,160
